Assam along with many parts of eastern and north-eastern India were severely impacted by seasonal floods affecting lives, livelihoods., and disrupting infrastructure and daily lives of millions of individuals in mid 2024. The flooding was sudden and occurred due to the combined impact of the rising water of the Brahmaputra river and the gushing water from its tributary, the Subansiri.
IIFL Foundation joined the community efforts towards providing relief to flood affected areas in Assam with support from its local staff volunteers. We distributed food and other life essentials impacting the lives of 1,800 individuals in Dibrugarh district of Assam and kept a close watch on further charity activities in the region.
Cyclone Fani, a category 4 storm caused havoc in Puri & Khordha district of Odisha in May of 2019. It was one of the worst cyclones to hit India in last two decades. The cyclone had affected at least 1.51 crore people spread over 16,659 villages, damaged five lakh houses and 6,700 hospital buildings and perished 34 lakh livestock, according to the first preliminary damage assessment report of the Odisha government.
IIFL Foundation’s team engaged to identify geographical areas that were in need of resources, which were by then, yet to receive aid. Selecting villages at khordha, cuttack and puri district, we connected with the victims to better understand their needs. Generally, when a natural calamity of such magnitude strikes human settlement, then the people are most likely displaced and thus are in need of basics resources as - food, clothing & shelter.
IIFL Foundation prepared a relief package comprising of food materials and certain essentials (Bedsheet, Mosquito repellent, Chappals, Water cans) and distributed them across 6 identified locations.

The year 2017 was a dramatic year in terms of the amount of rainfall-related flooding in India. Cyclone Mora and onset of monsoon in 2017 created series of severe flooding in multiple states of the country. In Rajasthan, the rains flooded the districts of Jodhpur, Barmer, Pali, Sirohi and ravaged many houses, roads, bridges, schools and health facilities.
IIFL Foundation responded to the emergency and extended its support by provision of Relief Kits to the victims of flood in Pali and Sirohi district of Rajasthan.
Based on the need expressed by the victims, we decided to put together a relief kit putting together - Mosquito Nets, Bedsheets, Tarpaulins, Food Material Combo & Water cans.
Over 2000 relief kits were distributed among flood affected families in Pali and Sirohi districts of Rajasthan, reaching out directly to over 5,000 flood affected families.
During September of 2014, the northern peak of India – Jammu & Kashmir, witnessed torrential rainfall that led to disastrous flooding across many of its districts. Settlements were washed away and lives were struggling to survive the natural calamity.
IIFL Foundation took charge of resurrecting the health care facilities, by understanding need of the hour. We arranged installation of required medical equipment for surgeons and dental treatments, testing laboratory and setting up of an entire Neo-natal ward for delivery and care of new-borns.
